The Blackfriar, Manhattan

The Blackfrair is a boutique condominium project located in the West Harlem section of upper Manhattan. The existing early 1900’s five story building was occupied by a church on the ground level and the upper floors were partially collapsed. AU with its GC subsidiary, under took the planning and value engineering of the design and extensive preservation of the exterior façade. The building was gutted down to the parti walls, a new core was installed including new elevator and two (2) units per floor. Two additional floors were added to maximize the site’s air rights. The lower levels were restored, increasing the height of the cellar by four (4) feet. The result is eight (8) elegantly appointed condominium units and a completely restored church on the lower level.
